A new home for WP-Pompey

October 6, 2011 in News, Technobabble

We used the domain name www.wordpressgang.co.uk for a whole day then realised that we shouldn’t have done since it steps a bit too hard on the WordPress trademark. See WordPress Domains So now we’re based at wp-pompey.org.uk Read the rest of this entry →

first theme – wpg1004

October 4, 2011 in Uncategorized

Rather than use the Twenty Eleven theme – which is quite nice because it’s responsive I’ve created another fairly ugly theme using Artisteer. I think you’ll agree it needs more work.

So, I’ve got to come up with a theme for this site. Should I incorporate *) – part of Pompey FC’s badge?

Introducing WordUp Pompey

October 4, 2011 in WordUp

I’d like to let you know that I’ve started up a WordPress local user group for Portsmouth and the surrounding area.

The first meetup was held on Thursday 20th October, from 7pm to 9pm, at the Dolphin Inn, Old Portsmouth. So chosen because that’s where WordCamp UK 2012 held its official social event on the 16th July.

The idea is to build a WordPress community consisting of business owner who have WordPress websites and specialists who best know how to make the sites work for the business.

The meetups are intended to be a mixture of networking, presentation and discussion.
The information shared will be centred on WordPress but also include social media, marketing, eCommerce, printing, etc.

For the business community the meetings need to be practical and geek-speak free.
For example there could be talks on how to make the most of blogging, solving website problems, finding the best plugins.

If you’re a web designer, web developer, site owner or otherwise involved with WordPress, WordPress Multisite or BuddyPress AND you live in or around Portsmouth, Hampshire, UK, then this site, the meetups and WPG 2012 is for you.

dinlo’s first words

October 4, 2011 in News

Hi and welcome to wp-pompey, the (new) home of the (newly formed) Portsmouth based community of WordPress lovers: users, designers, developers, site owners – businesses.

Over the next few weeks and months we hope to find out all about WordPress, WordPress Multisite and BuddyPress usage in this area.

We’ll be organising monthly WordUp meetings, then sometime in the Spring a WordPressgang event along the lines of the WP-Brighton event held in September 2011.

This blog post was written by @wppompey #wppompey, the WordPress admin for this site ( wp-pompey.org.uk), masquerading under the alias of dinlo.
